The firtst stop for the day was at the Gelnmorangi Distillery - there single malts are amongst my favourite favourites. Heading further north via the A9 toward John O'Groats we came accross "The River Bothy" restaurant in Berriedale - a delightful little cottage converted into a restaurant - where we enjoyed some delightful indulgence, freshly baked strawberry tart and coffee. Arriving at John O'Groats where visited the Stacks of Duncansby - a short walk from the parking area to the north facing cliffs - what a view. We especially enjoyed the variety of seabirds nesting in the cliffs towering over the ocean edge.
Pictures time as John O'Groats - a landmark for travellers doing the Lands End (in the south) to John O'Groats (in the north) journey.
We checked in teh Castle Arms, very close to the Queen Mother's Castle in Mey.
Fishing was on the agenda and we headed to Harrow Harbour to wet the lines - beautiful clear skies, blue clear water with a couple of seals playfully injoying the surf - no fish caught though... :-( Stuart calls in "ing" that is fishing without the fish :-)
All and all a lovely day, combining beautiful scenery with a short ride from Invergordon to Mey.
